A Visit From Khalil Gibran by Sam Hamod

( tonight,  Gibran came and asked me write of him)

there is a seriousness about his eyes,

his mustache, quiet, pure

thoughtfulness,

into the core of this life,

he probes, but only to fill out his poems,

he understands from the beginning, the

very heart of each matter he touches,

whether of love, of children, or

wherever God takes him, he is a

prophet, without mantle,  proven

in the short lines of poetry

written from inside his heart,

explaining how to live and love,

in ways that no philosopher

or theologian,

can ever match
